2007 All Africa Games:
Tunisia participates with a
new look team as they prepared through a friendly tour in
Algeria
Tunis,
Tunisia, July 5, 2007-: Tunisia Men’s volleyball team was ranked
second in the 4 teams tournament held at Tchaker Complex Hall in
Blida, Algeria in the occasions of festivals of 5 July
independence of Algeria in their preparation to the ninth All
Africa Games to be held in the same hall 14-23 July 2007.
The Tunisian team which started their active preparation late at
the beginning of June due to the involvement of most of the
squad in the end year exams, lost to the Algerian B team in the
opening 1-3 before having a dramatic improvement to win the
Algerian A team which will participate in the big African event
3-0, then they lost to the France Junior team which will
participate in the Men’s Junior World Championship in Morocco
2-3.
The Tunisian Men’s team will return back to Tunisia on Friday
before going again to Algeria to participate in the volleyball
competition in All Africa Games in Algeria. Tunisia was drawn in
the Pool of Death in the Men’s competition which is pool B along
with the African champions Egypt, the last African championship
bronze medalists Cameroon, the last all Africa games Silver
medalists Nigeria, Senegal and Botswana.
Algeria which will participate with the main full team was drawn
in pool A along with Kenya, South Africa, Ghana, Seychelles and
Congo.
The Tunisian team squad which will participate at All Africa
Games includes: Samir Sellami, Usama El Mahiri, Saif Mageed,
Belal Belhussin, Mohamed Trabelsi, Sami Sellami, Saif Eddine
Hamam, Salem Najiri, Aman Alllah, Sami Bel Hassona, Tarek
Sammari and Anwar El Tourgui.
It is well known that another Tunisian team prepare now for the
African Nations Championship to be held in South Africa 15 to 23
September aiming to regain the African title which was pickled
by Egypt in the last competition in Cairo, Egypt 2005.
“We had a full Calendar this year which need our manipulation to
choose the best team for each event avoiding the over load of
the main players,” Said Tunisia Volleyball Federation (FTVB)
Selim Ben Yousef. “We are concentrating on the African Nations
championship in South Africa which is qualifying to the 2007
World Cup in Japan to regain our preferred title as well as
competing for the gold medal in All Africa Games. So we managed
this with allowing another team to participate in the All Africa
games competition to pick up their best players for the African
Nations team thereafter.” He added.
