Volleyball drawing of lots:
Thriller clash between the big forces in the preliminary Pools
Alger,
Algeria, April 14, 2007-: The drawing of lots of the volleyball
competition in the ninth All Africa Games in Alger, Algeria 11-
23 July 2007 was held in the Algerian capital where the 12 final
teams of the Men's competition and the same number in Women's
competition were divided into 2 preliminary pools each
constitutes 6 teams.
The Women's drawing of lots put all the continental big forces
in pool B which includes the Last African Nations Championship
winners and the last two World Cup qualifiers Kenya with the
runner up of African Nations in 2003, the bronze medalists in
2005 and the last two World Championships qualifiers Egypt, the
2005 African Nations runner up and 2003 All Africa Games Gold
medalists Nigeria, the 2006 World Championship qualifiers
Cameroon, the emerging Tunisian team and Senegal. Pool A
includes much less strong teams which are Seychelles, Ethiopia,
Congo Brazzaville, Ghana, South Africa and the organizers
Algeria. The competition will reach the optimum in pool A for
the two quilters to semifinal.
In Men's competition, Pool B will feature also a big clash
between the African two arc rivals Tunisia and Egypt who have
most of the African titles with Cameroon the bronze medalists in
the last two African Nations Championships, Nigeria the 2003 All
Africa games silver medalists as well as Senegal, and Botswana.
Pool B will feature the organizers Algeria, with South Africa,
Congo, Ghana, Kenya and Seychelles.
The drawing of lots was attended by CAVB first Vice President
Mr. Tubby Reddy, the International Swimming
Federation President Mr. Moustafa Larfaoui, Vice President of ANOCA Moustafa Berraf, All Africa Games Organizing Committee
(COJA) director Djaafer Yefsah and CAVB board member Okba
Gougam.
