2007 All Africa Games- Qualifications Zone 5, Final Day:

Kenya Men qualified and achieved the double

Khartoum, Sudan, March 30, 2007-: Kenya volleyball teams achieved the double qualification to the 9th All Africa Games to be held in Alger, Algeria in July 2007 following the victory of their Men's team in Zone 5 qualifications held at Khartoum, Sudan on Thursday to follow the footsteps of their Women's team who qualified also to the finals after they won also the zonal qualifications early this month. Kenya become the sixth country to have both men and women teams in the finals after the organizers Algeria, Egypt, South Africa, Congo RD and Ghana.

The Kenyan Men's team overcame the highly technical Sudan team in front of more than 3000 spectators at Hashen Deifallah Hall in Khartoum in the final match of the zone 3-1 to clinch the qualification ticket. Sudan ended the competition in the second position and lost the finals while Rwanda defeated Uganda in straight sets to end in the third position leaving Ethiopia at the fourth position and Uganda at the bottom of the five nations tournament table.

The final between Kenya and Sudan was the best march in this competition as the Kenyans came from one set behind to clinch a 3-1 Victory (23-25, 25-19, 25-14, 25-22) over the organizers in almost 90 minutes of thriller performance.

It is well known that the finals of All Africa Games will comprise 12 teams in each category which will be the seven champions of the zones, the best three ranked teams in the last competition in Abuja, Nigeria (Egypt, Cameroon and South Africa in Men; and Egypt, Kenya and Cameroon in Women) as well as the previous (Nigeria) and coming (Algeria) organizers.
