2007 All Africa Games- Alger, Algeria: Qualifications Zone 5:
First victory for Sudan and Rwanda in day one


Khartoum, Sudan, March 25, 2007-: The two big forces in Zone 5 Sudan and Rwanda Men’s volleyball teams achieved comfortable victories in the first day of the zonal qualifications of All Africa Games held at Khartoum, Sudan. The organizers Sudan clinched a straight sets victory over Uganda and Rwanda had a similar victory over Ethiopia in the opening of the competition which featured 5 national teams.
Sudan team found it easy to defeat Uganda 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-21) using the support of the local spectators after the dominated the match through the better block and attacks. Rwanda used also their tall players to dominate the net and win their match against Ethiopia 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-20).
The Kenyan Men’s team was in a day off in the opening of the competition and will start their programme meeting Uganda in the second day in their aim to follow the footsteps of their women counterparts who qualified last weak to represent the zone as one of the best ranked team in the last competition in Abuja, Nigeria 2003, leaving the zonal ticket to the second ranked team Ethiopia. The organizers meet Ethiopia in the second day.
It is well known that the finals of All Africa Games will comprise 12 teams in each category which will be the seven champions of the zones, the best three ranked teams in the last competition in Abuja, Nigeria (Egypt, Cameroon and South Africa Men; and Egypt, Kenya and Cameroon Women) as well as the previous (Nigeria) and coming (Algeria) organizers.
