2007 African Clubs Champions Championship:
A Record of 20 Teams Registered

Cairo, Egypt, March 2-: A record of 20 clubs was registered to participate in 26th African Clubs Champions Championship to be held in Niamey, Niger 19- 28 April 2007. The African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) decided to have a maximum of 16 teams by the time of final registration confirmation determined on 9th March 2007.

The competition which will be the first big volleyball event to be organized in Niger is expected to be the strongest ever in presence of all the big forces of the continent at the club level in Africa.

Egypt will be represented by three teams led by the defending champions Al Ahly which is the competition record holder (8 titles) with Zamalek the victorious of the last African cup winners Cup in December 2006 and El Guish.

Tunisia will be represented by two teams but not defined yet, while Mouloudia the winner of the competition in 1988 will represent Algeria and comes as a big favorite.

The semifinalists of the last two competitions, General Service Unit of Kenya will participate for sake of a better position and FAP of Cameroon will represent the big volleyball country. Sudan will be represented by Daim Hamad and Merrikh Sports Club and Congo RDC by VC La Montoise and VC Police. The competition will feature also Churchull Bulldogs (Zimbabwe), University d’Abomey (Benin), BDF 6 VB (Botswana), Manga Sport (Gabon), Mugher Cement (Ethiopia), ASFA (Senegal), Inter Club (Congo Brazzaville) and Plateau Rocks (Nigeria).

“2007 edition of our major club competition will be a very promising one with this big number of participants,” Said CAVB Technical Director Mrs. Howyda Mondy. “We want to respect our dates regarding the final registration which will be according to the priority of the registration.” She added.
