2007 Men’s Under 21 World Championship:

Egypt starts preparation with new blood

Cairo, Egypt, February 19-: Egypt men’s Under 21 team started the active preparation to the 2007 World Championship of this age category known to be held in Morocco in July 2007 under supervision of the experienced head coach Sherif El-Shemerly. The preparation starts with the participation in the Egyptian first division league as the Egyptian Volleyball Federation decided to consider the junior team as a separate team in the league with all its club stars to gain the experience of playing with the senior teams.

Morocco Junior team which also qualified to the world championship will come to Egypt at the end of March for a collective camp which will include 4 friendly matches between both teams. This camp will be followed by another camp in Italy during April with the participation in a tournament with some national teams. Egypt will play then some friendly matches with the substitutes of the first team in May when the players will enter the exams of the end of the year thereafter.

The preparation will be finalized with the participation in a four nations’ tour in Morocco with some of the final teams of the World Championship.

“We hope to appear in the top form in the World Championship although it will be held in a very critical time just after the exams which mean we have a very narrow time for proper preparation,” Said Egypt head coach. “We added some players from the youth team under 19 to give them more experience as well as using some talent players like the tall middle blocker Mamdouh Abdel Monem (109 cm), the left attacker Ahmed Abdel Aal and the setter Ahmed El Lakkani.” He added
