Championships- Egypt: Day three
Egypt defeated Nigeria and had a first qualification Vacancy
Cairo, Egypt, March 19-: Egypt Women volleyball team secured a World
Championship vacancy in Japan 2006 to be the first team in the globe to have
this ticket from the qualifications
to join the automatically qualified teams, the organizers, Japan and the
defending champions, Italy. Egypt pulled off a straight sets victory over
Nigeria (25-15, 25-14, 25-14) in the third and final day of the African Women's
Group A African qualification held in Abdalla Alfaysal Hall in Al-Ahly club in
Cairo, Egypt.
The match was attended by some big guests headed by Dr. Aly Elsaadany, the
president of sports section in the Ministry of Sports, Mr. Bob Clarke, FIVB
Sports events coordinator, Dr.Amr Elwani, CAVB President and most of the CAVB
Executive committee members attending the meeting here in Cairo.
South Africa was ranked third after their victory over Botswana (25-15, 25-19,
25-7).
The Egyptian Women team used the artistry of the Superstars specially Tahani
Toson, Sherihan Sameh and the efficient setter Yasra Abdelkarim to have this
considerable victory which led them to a second successive World Championships
spot as they qualified to the last edition in Germany 2002. The Egyptian Coach,
Hesham Badrawy Gave the victory to the name of the Egyptian first lady, Mrs.
Suzan Mubarak which followed the team preparations and encourage the team to
have this achievement.
Egypt had a powerful start through the solid block of Sherihan Sameh and Tahani
Toson and the effective spikes of the Middle player Ingy Hamdy from position 3
and succeeded also to stop Nigeria big gun Esther Dusu and Priscilla Agera.
Egypt continued in the same rhythm all through the match.
Egyptian coach kept the standing team in the ground without substitution to keep
their pace and thus Egypt continued the high performance till the end of the
match.

The Egyptian Women Superstars had a valuable straight sets victory over Nigeria (25-15, 25-14, 25-14) to secure a World Championship Vacancy in Japan 2006.
Egypt had a powerful start through the solid block of Sherihan Sameh and Tahani Toson to lead 8-3. The Egyptian Middle player Ingy Hamdy had an active role in the spikes from position 3 and succeeded also to stop Nigeria big gun Esther Dusu and Priscilla Agera. Egypt continued in the same rhythm to win the set 25-15.
Nigerian back line defense improved in the second set and this helps the team to be near in the score till 11-7. Esther also began to play its role in spiking from position 2 so the result reached to 15-11. Egypt regained the high performance by the strong hits of Sherihan and Tahani to win the set 25-14.
Egyptian coach kept the standing team in the ground without substitution to keep their pace and thus Egypt continued the high performance. The wing spiker, Dina Youssef played an important role with her effective spikes and helped by the strong backline defense and thus they ended the set easily 25-14.

All my players did their best in the match and were all stars. We thank the Egyptian federation led by Dr. Amr Elwani for the continuous support to women teams.
Nigeria Coach, Anthony Oghuma: Egypt was the better side as they play with a full team, while my team had a shortage of two players who are Turkey based. Egyptian stars specially Tahani Toson and the setter Yosra Abdelkarim.

Match South Africa vs. Botswana

Match Description:
South Africa team started the match with higher spirit to achieve a victory in the competition before leaving. The setter Natasha Strydom and the wing spiker Vitalina Nel led the team to 8-3 lead in the first technical time out, and then they continued their rhythm to win the first set 25-15.
In the second set Botswana team appeared in a better performance and used the effective spikes of the middle player Daisy Golekanye and the setter to decrease the point deficit in the first technical time out to 8-7 and then the wing spiker of South Africa Mageso Hosia did her job from position 2 to allow her team to have a 16-11 lead. The wing spiker of South Africa Palesa Serhonyana did well after that using her strong hits to lead till the end of the set 25-19.
In the third set South Africa was better in attack and defense to win easily 25-7.

South Africa Coach, Abdelhamid Elwassimy: We started through this tournament to have a competitive team in the coming championships. Today we did better than other matches after we had some experience.
Botswana Coach, Kabo Ntshinogang: We played our best period in the second set and were able to win. From now onwards we will be better.

Match Egypt vs. South Africa

Match Description:
Egypt women team continued the winning rhythm to have a straight sets victory over South Africa (25-12, 25-12, 25-9) in their second match of Gp A qualifications. Egypt started the match with the full force to lead 4-0 and 8-3 in the first technical time out due to the efficient spikes of the experienced star Tahani Toson aided by the intelligent setting by Yosra Abdelkarim. South African team improved by the efforts of the setter Natasha Strydom but they couldn't stop the Egyptian attacks to allow Egypt to have a wide point deficit at the end of the set 25-12.
In the second set the Egyptian middle player Ingi Hamdy made a great difference with her fast attacks to disturb the South African defense and allow also Tahani to have a role in spiking from the backline. Egypt led 8-3, 16-7 and then ended the set 25-12.
In the third set the Egyptian coach started to squad some bench player
in the standin line up as he allowed the young setter Miral Abdelkader and the middle player Neamat Badawy to participate as Egypt led 8-2. South Africa improved their back line defense by the libero Sthembile to come near, but again Egypt used the big gun Tahany to win the set 25-9 and the match in straight sets.

I'm very happy to see my team with this high performance. Africa is progressing but Egypt still has the leadership in the continent. We will concentrate tomorrow to have a third victory over Nigeria to have a World Championship spot. Tahany, Dina, the libero Sara Talaat were my best players.
South Africa coach, Abdelhamed Elwassimy:
We did our best according to our capabilities but actually we have got a great benefit from this competition and I think we will improve in the coming tournament after my players get enough pictures.

Nigeria had an easy journey to have their second victory in raw over Botswana in straight sets 25-13, 25-10, 25-22 to become nearer to a World Championship spot. Nigeria started the match with the main line up so they led from the start using the powerful spikes of the wing spikers Esther Dusu and Priscilla Agera. It went easily towards the Nigerian side that ended the first set 25-13.
The second set showed better performance for Botswana team when they improved the block by Masego Hosia and Tsholofelo Retshabile to go near Nigeria in the first part of the set but again Theresa Okonma and the fine setting by Ehis Iriowen led Nigeria to win the set 25-10.
The third set was the best for Botswana as the team had a better attack. Nigeria reached to 8-5 in the first technical time out. Botswana through Tshwanelo Boitumelo and Lovy Saziba succeeded to reach to the draw for the first time 17-17 and 22-22. Nigeria felt danger to lose the set so they regained the rhythm to win the set narrowly 25-22 and win the match in straight sets.

Nigeria Coach, Anthony Oghuma: we played a good match but with a little effort to save our potential to the most important match against Egypt, Saturday.
Botswana Coach, Kabo Ntshinogang: We played better than the first match but we were not good enough to win the match. We are in a trial now to improve in future to qualify.

Nigeria and Egypt won their opening matches
Cairo, Egypt, March 17 -: Nigeria and Egypt won their matches in the opening day of the Women's African Qualifications Group A for 2006 World Championship in Japan. Nigeria had a valuable victory over the emerging South African team 3-1, while Egypt found it easy to have a straight sets victory over the recently formed Botswana team.
The more favorite Nigerian team clinched a 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 25-19, 26-24) victory over South Africa in a thriller match lasting about 100 minutes. South Africa started the match by more stable lines as they led 2-1 and 5-2 due to the effective spikes of Vitalina Nel and the good setting of Natasha Stydom and then the Nigerian team came to the match through the effective spiking of the French based spiker Esther Dusu to decrease the point deficit and to lead 17-15. Again the South African team improved their backline defense to regain the lead and end the first set 25-21.
In the second set Nigerian team showed a better performance using their big guns Esther and Chinyere Onuoha to lead from the beginning of the set 5-2 and reached 8-6 by the first technical time out. South African team improved again their block through Dories Ramela and Vitalina to make another lead 21-20 before the Nigerian team used their opponent's mistake to end the second set 25-23.
The third set showed thrillers rallies between both teams as Nigeria had a good advance to lead 8-6 by the good performance of Esther and used the repeated mistakes of the opponent's backline defense to end the set 25-19.
In the fourth set the South Africa team regained the rhythm using the efficient wing spiker Palesa Serhonyana to lead 8-3. Also they used the solid block of Natasha and Vitalina to lead 10-4. Nigerian team regained their performance to come close and drew 13-13 before South Africa led 16-13 in the second technical time out. The match became more exciting and went point by point till Nigeria ended the set 26-24 by the effective spikes of Esther.
The second match was a one side game towards the organizers, Egypt who won the match in straight sets easily 25-2, 25-10, 25-5. The Egyptian Coach used many bench players during the matches to get the experience before the important match Friday against South Africa. The second day will show also Nigeria to play Botswana.

We lost because Nigerian players had more international experience. Nigeria is a physically powerful team and they could use their experience to win the critical points of the match.
Nigeria Coach, Anthony Oghuma: We faced a different team than we expected. South African team is very promising in the coming years. The Setter of South Africa was the Match star. My best players were Esther, Iroen and Agera.

Match Description:
In a one side game Egypt clinched a straight sets victory over Botswana 3-0 (25-2, 25-10, 25-5).
The match started by active spikes from Egyptian players who proved their long experience in the international level specially Tahany Toson who used here great experience although she joined the team just before the competition from the course she is taking now in Leipzig, Germany. The Egyptian team led 8-1 in the first technical time out by the active fast spikes of Ingy Hamdy and the accurate digging by the libero Sara Talaat. They continued to lead in the second technical time out without losing a point to lead 16-1. The Egyptian predominance continued till they won the first set 25-2.
The Egyptian coach Hesham Badrawy used some bench players like the setter Miral Abdelkader and the middle player Hagar Badr and reserved the team superstar but Egypt continued the predominance to win the set 25-10 but after better performance from Botswana team specially Daisy Golekanye.
The third set again was a one side game as Egypt led 14-0 before Botswana scored the first point. Egypt won the set 25-5.

Egyptian Coach put Nigeria as a great favorite
Cairo, Egypt, March 16 -: Just few hours before the start of Women's Group A African Qualification Tournament in Cairo, Egypt, the host team suffered a problem due to the injury of the experienced middle player, Neamat Abdelmonem in the last camp preparing for the competition. Neamat along with Tahany Toson are considered the most valuable players in their team's dream to have a World Championship spot for the second successive time when they battle in the four nations' Tour to be held in Cairo, 17-19 March with Nigeria, South Africa and Botswana.
"We have a great advantage to be the first African team to have a ticket to Japan 2006 as we have the most experienced and skillful players, but we shouldn't forget the powerful Nigerian team" Said the Egyptian Coach Hesham Badrawy. "Usually the last matches between Egypt and Nigeria ended in a thriller five setters' fantastic games. We may lose one of our key players, Neamat if she couldn't pass the physical test to be done Wednesday, i.e. one day before the opening match." Added Badrawy.
The Egyptian coach postponed the announcement of his final squad till the physical test to be done for his star.
South Africa women team will reach Cairo Wednesday via Kenya as it had a last camp of preparation there with three friendly matches against the big Kenyan clubs. South African team won two matches and lost the third with its new emerging performance under supervision of the Egyptian Coach Abdelhamid Elwassimy. |

2006 World Championships- Egypt
Botswana selected the line up for Egypt Qualifications
Cairo, Egypt, March 15 -: Botswana women national team left their homelands Tuesday towards Egypt to participate in 2006 World Championship African Qualification Group A which show for teams competing for a World Championship Vacancy in Japan 2006. The tournament hosted by Egypt 17-19 current March will show the organizers, Egypt, Nigeria, South Africa and Botswana competing for the first African Ticket to Japan 2006. Botswana women team made their final preparations Monday, by two training sessions in SSG Hall in Botswana before they left. After that the head Coach Kabo Ntshinogang selected the final line up to participate in the qualifications.
The final team Delegation includes: Waboraro Mokgatla - Team Manager, Dr. Becerra - Team Doctor, Mogami Molosiwa - International Referee, Kabo Ntshinogang - Head Coach (Mafolofolo Club), Lux Mogapi - Assistant Coach ( Teletswana Club) and the players: Tshepo Serwe - Captain – (Mafolofolo club), Josephine Ntshinogang (Mafolofolo), Dineo Mogapi (Mafolofolo), Tshwanelo Boitumelo (Mafolofolo), Tsholofelo Retshabile (Mafolofolo), Amogelang Nyambe (Kutlwano), Masego Hosia (Kutlwano), Tebogo Sejewe ( Kutlwano), Lovy Saziba ( Kutlwano), Daisy Golekanye ( Kutlwano), Lekedzane Bayi (Kalavango), Segakweng Molefi (Teletswana).

South Africa ready for the competition in a Kenyan camp
Cairo, Egypt, March 12 -: Egypt Women volleyball team started the countdown preparation to participate in the African Group A qualification tournament for 2006 World Championship, to be held in Abdallah El-Faysal Hall in Al-Ahly club in Cairo, Egypt 17-19 March. The competition will show four teams competing for the first African Vacancy in the big prestigious event, the organizers Egypt, Nigeria, Botswana and South Africa.
The head Coach, Hesham Badrawy decided to put the experienced player, Tahany Toson in the final Line up though she is taking a volleyball course now in Leipzig, Germany to use here long experience to aid the team to qualify to the World Championship for the second successive time.
The South African team arrived in Nairobi Thursday on their way to Egypt. They are set to play three friendly matches against Kenya's top sides, African Club champions Kenya Pipeline, Telkom and Kenya Commercial Bank before they leave for Egypt on Monday. They open their tour with a match against Telkom at Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani yesterday

All Eyes on Egypt for the first African Men's and Women's tickets
Cairo, Egypt, Match 10 -: All eyes of the world volleyball family will be focused on Egypt between 17 to 26 March to follow both Women's Group A and Men's Group D of African Qualifications for 2006 World Championship in Japan as the winner of both tournaments will have a World championship spot. These two tickets will be the first African out of total 5 vacancies in both Men and women categories.
The Women's Competition will be hosted by the most famous Egyptian Club, Al-Ahly in Abdallah Al-Faysal hall in Cairo just few meters from the historic Cairo tower in a three days tour (17-19 March). Four teams will compete for the first African women ticket to Japan 2006. Egypt will be a great favorite for the ticket aided by expected 3000 spectators used to attend volleyball competitions in this hall. This venue hosted 6 big competitions in the last two years, of them the last Arab cup of Clubs' Champions in December 2004 where the trophy went to the organizing team, Al- Ahly and the seventh Girls U-18 African Nations Championship in January 2005 where the Egyptian girls won the cup to secure with Tunisia the African Vacancies in the World Championship of this age category. Nigeria women, the winner of the Gold medal in All Africa Games in there homelands in 2003 come also as a close favorites as they will use most of the line up which achieved the only trophy in there country's women volleyball history. South African team rebuilt by the Egyptian Coach Abdelhamid El-Wassimy has now a great progress through the condensed preparation programme. Botswana team wants to create a new line in African volleyball history, but actually comes as a least favorite.
The men's competition will be organized by Union club, the most famous in the beautiful city, Alexandria by the Mediterranean Sea where Millions of tourists used to have vacations there specially in summer. Egypt men joined by Cameroon, RD Congo and Sudan will compete also for the first men vacancy in 2006 prestigious finals. The Tournament will be held 25-26 March in the newly established hall. Egypt men come as most favorites with their Serbian Coach Vasline Vokovic condensed programme after the end of the local league two weeks ago. Cameroon, the semifinalist in both 2003 African nations championship and 2003 All Africa Games, will use seven European based professionals in their line up aiming to have their first ever ticket in World Championship finals. RD Congo team depend mainly on the experienced players of the local league. Sudan is the only team to pass the first round as they won the first African men's tour 1-3 February 2005.
Both competitions show a great interest in Egypt as the Egyptian TV, Egyptian Satellite Channel and Nile sports channel will broadcast the matches on Air to all the Middle East area. The Egyptian Volleyball Federation (FEV) also established a press committee to prepare a daily Bulletin covering both events. CAVB web site www.cavb.org put a special icon in the homepage for all the tournament details.
The venue of the Women tournament in Cairo occurs in one of the most strategic places of the Capital of Egypt, close to the charming Nile River and Cairo Opera.
Egyptian Volleyball Federation under presidency of Dr. Amr Elwani, also the CAVB president, made a close preparation with the Ministry of Youth and sports to make the competition an ideal one. The Minster of Youth and Sports Mr. Mamdouh Elbeltagy will attend the opening ceremony.

Egyptian Federation Changed competition venue to ensure more spectators
Cairo, Egypt, February 23-: The Egyptian Volleyball Federation (FEVB) decided to change the venue of the Women’s African Qualification of 2006 World Championship from the Cairo Stadium complex to Abdalla Alfaysal Hall in Al-Ahly club in Cairo which had already hosted two big competitions this year namely, 2005 Girls U-18 African Nations Championship and the 23rd Arab cup of Clubs Champions. The tournament will be held 17-19 March with four competitors; Egypt, Nigeria, Botswana and South Africa.
“Al-Ahly hall will be more appropriate to host the big FIVB event” Said CAVB and FEVB President, Dr. Amr Elwani. “The new venue will attract more spectators to this prestigious event as occurred in the previous competitions this year” Added Elwani.
“We hope a competitive participation from the four teams to have a good team representing the continent in 2006 World Championship” He concluded.
Botswana Women team ensured to arrive to Cairo on March 15 and they are preparing now in a local camp.
South African team started preparations 2 month ago under supervision of the Egyptian coach, Abdel Hamid Elwassimy.
The host team, Egypt started 19th current February their local camp led by the experienced coach Hesham Badrawy. They will have a ten days camp in Alexandria before the competition.
