2006 Men's World Championship- Egypt, Day Three:
Egypt Men Followed Their Women Counterparts to World Championship Finals


Alexandria, Egypt, March 26 -: Egyptian volleyball repeated the rare double as their Volleyball Men team followed in the footsteps of the Women counterparts and had a ticket to 2006 World Championships in Japan following their third victory in raw over Sudan 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25- 9) in the third and final day of African Qualification Group D here in Alexandria, Egypt. The Northern African country had this double before when both Men's and Women's teams qualified to 2002 World Championships in Germany and Argentina respectively.
Over 2000 spectators attended the final match in Sports Union Club Hall saluted the Egyptian team which changed blood in this competition in their way to have a new competitive team.
"I tried to give all the players the chance to proof their outstanding with the national team and I think we succeeded to build up a new young team promising in the near future" Said the Egyptian coach, Vecelin Vukovic. "Now I'm thinking of the next competitions especially African Nations Championship this summer and the World Championship next year" He concluded.
Sudan Coach said "We had many problems before the competition because we started only three monthes ago with a new team replacing the old players. It was not easy for us to improve quickly but I will continue working till we reach our goals".
Egypt playing with most of the reserve players found it easy to penetrate Sudan's Block and backline defense to win the third match and ensure their vacancy in the prestigious 2006 competition.
In the other match, the depressed Cameroon players started the match against RD Congo lazily after they lost the day before against Egypt and subsequently lost their World Championship dreams. But the retain their momentum to defeat their opponents 3-1(17-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-17) 0n 69 minutes.
Cameroon came from one set behind to win three successive sets defeating Congo after a high performance of the outstanding players specially Jean Nziemi and Sombang Tonemassa. The victory gave the winner the second place in the tournament after Egypt with five points ahead of RD Congo which came third with 4 points leaving Sudan in the fourth place with 3 points.


2006 Men's World Championship- Egypt, Day Two:
Egyptian Men near a World Championship vacancy after a second victory over Cameroon

Alexandria, Egypt, March 25 -: Egypt Men's volleyball team became near the prestigious double to join their women team already qualified to 2006 World Championship Finals last week, when they came from one set behind to clinch a difficult 3-1 victory (22-25, 26-24, 25-18, 25-22) in a thriller match in day two African Qualification Group D held in Sports Union Club hall in Alexandria, Egypt. RD Congo defeated Sudan also 3-1 in an exciting match dominated by the Congo side.
The match -attended by more than 2500 spectators led by the representative of Alexandria Governor General, Hashem Aboulfadl, the president of Sports sector in the Minstery of sports, Dr. Aly Elsaadany and CAVB President, Dr. Amr Elwani who attended the match in the tribune of Cameroon spectators- was very exciting and full of volleyball skills.
Egypt led the tournament at the end of competition day two with 4 points, ahead of Cameroon and RD Congo with 3 points each then Sudan fourth with two points.
Egypt- Cameroon match was very exciting especially in the first and second sets but the experienced players in the winner side specially the setter; Maged Moustafa and the wing spiker Hamdy Elsafy finalized the result towards the organizer's side. " I appreciate the great efforts done by the oldest players, Elsafy and Maged for the team today. Actually they were the main factors in this victory" Said the Egyptian Coach, Vecelin Vukovic after the match. "They were my hands and my mind inside the court." He concluded.
Cameroon started the match actively using the artistry of the big guns Sombang Tonemassa and Emessiene Bebine to win the first set between the excited big Egyptian fans. Egypt team improved a lot after to win three successive sets using the intelligence of the oldest player in the competition, the setter Maged Moustafa and the wing spiker Ahmed Salah.
Congo team showing big improvement than the first day clinched also 3-1 victory (22-25, 26-24, 25-18, 25-22) over Sudan.


2006 Men's World Championship- Egypt, Day one
Cameroon and Egypt clinched easy victories

Alexandria, Egypt, March 24 -: Both the favorite teams Egypt and Cameroon had a good start in the African Qualifications Men's Group D opened Thursday in the Union Sport Club Hall here in Alexandria, Egypt. Egypt playing with the entire list of 12 players needed less than an hour to clinch a straight sets victory over RD Congo, while Cameroon swept Sudan also in straight sets using a fully professional squad. Cameroon will meet Egypt, Friday in a match considered as an early final between the most favorite teams to win the qualification ticket to Japan 2006. Sudan will play RD Congo in the other match.
Egyptian coach intended to play with his entire team list to allow the chance for all the play to have a place in the standing line up before the stronger matches, but they pulled off a 3-0 (25-12, 25-11, 25- 15). " I gave the chance to all the players to struggle for a place in the final 6 and I hope they will do will against Cameroon on Friday."Said the Egyptian Coach, Veceline Vukovic. "I hope to win for two reasons, first to qualify to the prestigious world championship and second to start with this new generation to reach the world level". He concluded.
The wing spiker, Ahmed Salah, and Saleh Fathi were the stars of Egypt in the match.
Cameroon team led a fully professional team based in France found it easy to penetrate the Sudanese defense to clinch a straight sets victory ( 25-19, 25-12, 25-17) in 60 minutes. Cameroon used the artistry of the strong spikers Jean Nziemi and Elysee Ossosso to penetrate the Sudanese undisciplined defense. "We hope to continue in the same rhythm in the coming matches against Egypt and Congo to have the World championship vacancy" Said Cameroon head coach, Blaise Mayam


Egypt and Cameroon announced the squad

Alexandria, Egypt, March 23 -: Egyptian and Cameroon Coaches announced Wednesday their final squad to participate in 2006 World Championships' African Qualification Group D to be held in Alexandria, Egypt 24- 26 March to determine the first African representative in men's category in the prestigious 2006 competition.
Cameroon team arrived to Alexandria with only 10 players who are all European based professionals in France. They had a three days training sessions in Alexandria before starting the competition where they are considered one of the big favorites to win the tournament beside the organizers, Egypt.
"Cameroon is our big competitor to have the first African Men's vacancy in Japan" Said the Egyptian head coach, Veselin Vukovic. "Egypt defeated them twice in the last African Nations championship in Cairo 2003 and also in All Africa Games in Abuja, Nigeria 2003, but now they have a more solid team of professionals" He added.
The Egyptian coach depended on the stars of Al-Ahly club although they lost the local league against their arch rivals, Zamalek club last month. He chooses 9 players from Al-Ahly, Maged Moustafa, Abdalla Abdelsalam, Hamdy Elsafy, Ayman Foad, Usama Komsan, Wael El Aidy, Mahmoud El-komy, Mohamed El-sayed and Ahmed Salah. The other players in the line up are Saleh Fathy and Mohamed Abelmonem from Zamalek and Mohamed Roshdy from Union Sports Club.
"We want to use the experience of our French based professionals to have the World Championship ticket" Said the Cameroon Volleyball Federation President, Majore Louis Timba. "They had the international experience through their matches in the French league" He concluded.
Sudan head coach, Alexander Karikov from Russia will use the push gained from the victory of round one qualification tournament in Khartoum last February to continue the way to the first ever World Championship ticket. RD Congo is searching for a new route towards the World level even if the qualification is thought to be a far dream.


2006 Men's World Championships- Egypt:
Cameroon and RD Congo Arrived to Alexandria


Alexandria, Egypt, March 21 -: Cameroon and RD Congo Volleyball teams arrived Monday to Alexandria to participate in African Qualifications Group D Tournament to 2006 Men's World Championship in Japan. Sudan team which won the first round Qualification in their homelands last February will arrive Tuesday to Alexandria to complete the teams which will join the Organizers, Egypt in the tournament which will give the winner the first qualification ticket to Japan in Men's category with the automatically qualified teams the organizers, Japan and the defending champions, Brazil.
The competition venue in the Sports Union Club in Alexandria became ready to host the event expected to show big spectators especially after the Egyptian women's team qualification to the World Championships final in Japan.
The Egyptian teams will end the preparation schedule under supervision of the Serbian Coach, Visco Vukuvic who led his country to the silver medal of the 2003 World league and will announce Tuesday the final squad for the competition.
On the other hand Cameroon team arrived with the European based professionals seeking for a World Championship finals' vacancy.
