Sudan Secured A Second Round Ticket
Khartoum, Sudan, February 3-: Sudan Volleyball men team secured a second round
ticket in the 2006 World Championship qualification after winning the African
Group A Tournament held in their homelands in presence of over crowds of fans
exceeding the capacity of Hashim Diefalla Sport Hall in Sudanese capital of
Khartoum. Sudan defeated their big competitor, Ghana in a five setter very
exciting match (18-25, 26-24, 21-25, 25-19, 15-10) lasting near two hour of very
exciting and modern volleyball.
Sudan qualified to the second round to play in Group D with Egypt, Cameroon and
RD Congo next March in Cairo as the champions of this second round Group has a
World Championship vacancy.
Ghana team surprised the big crowd by a fantastic start as Seidu Adjanaku and
Evans Lomotey led their team to win the first set. Sudanese team came to the
match in the second set where their experienced coach, Alexander Karikov of
Russia solve the defense problems and adjusted the rotation of his team to win
the second set after good performance of Khalid Mamour, Bacher Fatharahman and
the libero Hafiz Khiralla.
Ghana again increased the excitement the match and ended the third set 25-21
after a group of efficient spikes. Sudan brought the match to the tie break
after ending the fourth set 25-19 and then used the high spirit of their stars
to win the tie break 15-10 in front of the excited spectators.
The emerging Uganda team ended the coompetiton in the third place after
defeating Eritrea 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-22) in about an hour.
African Men's Qualifications Group A- Day one
Successful start for Sudan and Ghana
Khartoum, Sudan, February 1- Ghana and the hosts, Sudan started their matches
successfully on Tuesday having a straight sets victory over Uganda and Eritrea
respectively in the first day of African Group A Qualification for 2006 World
Championship held in Khartoum, Sudan.
Sudan team supported by enthusiastic 2000 fans in Hashim Diefalla sports hall
found it easy to sweep Eritrea 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-13) in presence of the
Minster of Youth and sports in Sudan, Mr. Hassan Osman Rizig. Khalid Mamour led
the hosts by his efficient hits in the first set to lead 8-5 and 16-11, then
Eritrea team stopped to score any point to end the set 25-11.
In the second set Bashir Fatharhaman aided Khalid to penetrate the weak Eritrean
block ending the second set 25-13.
The third set showed a little improvement in the Eritrean team led by Embaue
Mussei and Mohamed Moustafa but finally the more experienced Sudanese ended the
set 25-13.
Sudan Radio station, the media sponsor of the competition gave the match prize
to Sudan libero, Kheiralla Hafiz the best player.
Ghana appeared in a very good performance to beat Uganda 3-0 (25-20, 25-23,
25-20) in a more competitive match. Winfred Azrekey and Evans Lomotey of Ghana,
who were chosen as the best players of the match, led their team efficiently to
win the critical points of the match specially in the second set when Uganda
came to the match and led several times due to the effective spikes of Yakan
Lawrance and Godfrey Lwalanda. Ghana team showed a good performance enough to
compete for the group ticket in the second round
African Men's Qualifications Group A:
Khartoum, Sudan, January 31-: The three Volleyball men teams Ghana, Uganda and
Eritrea reached to Sudan Capital, Khartoum to join the host team Sudan in the
first African Qualification procedure to World Championship 2006, in Group A
known to start Tuesday in Hashim Diefalla Sport Hall by two matches as Uganda
will meet Ghana, while Sudan plays Eritrea in the competition day one.
"We are Happy to see the four teams here in Sudan to start this prestigious FIVB
competition and we hope to see a strong and successful competition" Said Sudan
Volleyball Federation President Emad Ahmed in a press conference, Monday in
Khartoum. He added that the broad media coverage of the event will push
volleyball to a new position in the country." I'm also happy to see the
Presidents of the Volleyball federations of all the participating teams
attending the event" added Emad.
The technical meeting will be held later Monday followed by a press conference
for the coaches
4 teams compete for a second round spot
Ghana calls 2 professionals, and Matches covered live by Sudan Satellite Channel
Sudan Volleyball Federation becomes ready to host the first African
qualification Tournament for 2006 World Championship 1-3 February. Sudan Radio
Station took the sponsorship to cover the tournament which will be held in
Hashim Diefalla Sport Hall in the Capital, Khartoum. Four teams, Sudan, Ghana,
Uganda and Eritrea, will compete for a place in the second round of the
qualification as the champion of the tournament will qualify to Group D with
Egypt, Cameroon and RD Congo. The Champion of the latter will have a World
Championship ticket. “The competition will be covered live by the Sudanese
Satellite Channel” Said Sudan Volleyball Federation President, Emad Ahmed. “
Everything is ready to show our capacitance to host the big FIVB event. The big
hotels and the training halls were reserved for the teams” he added.
Ghana team will reach Khartoum Sunday with the full squad including 2 abroad
professionals Karim Agbenyegah in Shams club the finalist of the local cup of
Egypt and another in USA. The team is ready for the competition through a local
camp since two weeks.
Uganda national team Head Coach, Tom Mpuuja Mutebi have chosen his line up using
only local players led by the team captain Muzungu Zedde and including the main
stars of the local league specially Andrew Kalyegira and Rick Kiberu. The coach
has a problem of possible absence of two of his main players.
Eritrea team will reach Khartoum also Sunday with the stars of volleyball in the
country in the first participation of a world Championship qualifications.
Sudan National team is considered one of the most favorites to win the tour
using the big home spectators expecting to attend. The team players are mainly
from two local clubs, Dim Hamad and Saganna, both participated in the Arab Cup
of Clubs’ Champions held in Cairo since two weeks. Both clubs had a two weeks
camp in Cairo for the preparation to the World Championship qualification. The
Sudanese head coach Alexander Karikov of Russia, and the ex. coach of Dynamo
Moscow team have chosen 12 players for the tour with the setter Ossama Bangoli,
Spikers Mahgoub Badr ElDeen and Ayman Soliman coming as main stars.
