Volleyball World Championships:
Egypt names final World Championship
squad
Cairo,
Egypt, October 11 -: Egypt which is one
of the three African representatives in
the 2006 Women's World Championship in
Japan named the final squad to
participate in the prestigious event
without the most experienced star Tahani
Tosson who declared her national
retirement.
The final squad was declared by the
Cuban Coach of the Egyptian National
team Juan Martinez and his assistant
Mamdouh Ismail after the local camp
which started since the mid of June in
Olympic centre in Cairo. They choose
five players from the Women under 20
years which just won the African Nations
Championship in Alexandria last
September and qualified to the World
championship of this age category
alongside with seven old players who
participated in the 2002 World
Championship in Germany and 2003 World
Cup in Japan.
Veteran Ahly club player Yosra Selem,
the team main setter who has
participated in 2002 World Championship
was included in the team with the
experienced middle blocker Ingy El
Shamy. The skilful Libero Sara Ali was
chosen also after her recovery from the
injury after she was nominated as best
receiver and best digger in the 2006
African Clubs Champions Championship in
Mauritius last May.
After she was chosen as the competition
most valuable player MVP in the Women
under 20 African Nations championship,
the promising youngster Nada Nassif will
join the national first team for the
first time at the age of 16.
Speaking after he named his final 12
players for the World Championships, the
head coach Juan Martinez said that he is
happy to direct this promising team in
the big FIVB event. "I think it will be
a great opportunity for the youngsters
to gain more experience which will be
useful in the near future so we
concentrated on the promising players
from the youth and junior teams." He
added.
Egypt women final squad includes: Yosra
Selem, Miral Abdel Kader (Setters), ,
Dina Yousef, Sherihan Abdel Fattah,
Marwa Abdel Razak, Nada Nassif
(Attackers), Hagar Maged, Menna Allah
Mohamed, Mona Badawy (Middle Blockers),
Ingy El Shamy, Samar Ebeed (Opposite)
and Sara Ali (Libero). Head Coach Juan
Martinez, and assistant coach Mamdouh
Ismail.
