Fruitful decisions for better African Volleyball in the best ever Democratic Board

Cairo, Egypt, September 15-: The Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) Board of Administration meeting in Cairo took many fruitful decisions for the better future of continental volleyball. The meeting headed by CAVB President Dr. Amr Elwani discussed important subjects in management, technical and financial aspects.

The meeting decided to apply the zonal qualification system for the National African competitions to secure the participation of all the continental geographical areas in the competitions and ensure the presence of a big number of participants in the big competitions qualifying to the FIVB championship. The new proposal will decrease the costs of transportation for the zonal qualification of the nearby countries. These proposals will be implemented at the senior level before being applied to the age categories.
The board determined 11 - 23 July 2007, for the volleyball competition in 2007 All Africa Games to be held in Algeria. The number of participating teams in the finals increased to 12 instead of 10 in the 2003 competition in Abuja, Nigeria. The qualifiers will be the champions of the seven zones as well as the previous and next organizers and the final three teams in the podium in the last competition in Abuja 2003.
The organizers of the 2007 African competitions will be determined by the end of this year according to the new criteria proposed by the executive member Camilo Antao. Seventeen candidates are available for the seven African competitions in 2007 which a historic record reflecting the great interest of organization in all the African zones.
Uganda proposed to host the 2009 CAVB congress, while the 2007 congress will be between Algeria during All Africa Games or Mauritius.
From the technical point of view, CAVB decided to support the establishment of more development courses using the usual support of the FIVB in many programmes specially the new Volleyball Cooperation programme (VCP) which replaced the last Sports Aid Programme (SAP) and encouraging the NFs to organize more coaches and referee courses.
CAVB decided to contact big companies to have more sponsors and increase marketing of the African competitions to help the development programmes in the continent. The board decided to copy what was applied in the big volleyball countries in Africa like Tunisia and Egypt which succeeded to start the sponsorship in their local competitions.
In Beach Volleyball category CAVB Board decided to start the implementation of the last proposal of starting with continental competitions on the club level in 2007 to increase the participating teams before shifting to the national level. Beach volleyball took a big part of discussions after the big success of South Africa in hosting one of the SWATCH- FIVB world tours which is considered the highest level of the sport in the world
and also the good organization of the FIVB Satellite Beach Volleyball Championship in Morocco in the last few years.
From the media point of view the board approved the proposal of the first vice president Dr. Bechir Louazir to ask each National Federation to sent a professional journalist with its team in the big African Nations Championships to increase the press coverage of volleyball material in all African media
"We are all happy to be united like that in our board before the FIVB Congress in Japan where we want to be one hand towards the future of our sport," Said CAVB President Dr. Amr Elwani. "I think this is our best Board regarding the outcome of fruitful decisions and the democratic discussions" He added.
