Tunisia defeated Algeria and qualified to 2007 World Championship


Kelibia, Tunisia, August 23-: The Organizers, Tunisia clinched the 2007 Boys Under 19 World Championship following their victory over Algeria in straight in the third and final day of the Ninth Boys Under 19 African Nations Championship held at the famous Issa Ben Nasr hall in the city of Kelibia, Tunisia on Wednesday. The victory allowed Tunisia to gain the African cup and subsequently the only African slot in the prestigious FIVB Championship.

Tunisia came at the top of the competition with two victories, while the last champions Egypt came second with one victory and one defeat and Algeria came third with two defeats.

The highly optimistic Tunisian team after their big victory over the defending champions Egypt on Tuesday succeeded to pull of a respectable victory over Algeria 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-15) in 72 minutes. The Tunisian team was superior in all volleyball skills and so they won the first set which was the most exciting in 28 minutes.

Algeria tried to come to the match in the second set but the Tunisian spirit was high enough to make them better in blocks and attacks and they won the set 25-14 in 23 minutes. The third set went the same as Tunisia ended it in 21 minutes to win the match and achieve the prestigious World championship ticket.

 


Day Two
Tunisia defeated Egypt easily in straight sets

Kelibia, Tunisia, August 22-: The Organizers, Tunisia clinched an important victory defeating the defending champions, Egypt in straight sets in the second day of the Ninth Boys Under 19 African Nations held at the famous Issa Ben Nasr hall in the city of Kelibia, Tunisia on Tuesday.
The Tunisian team used well the over stress suffered by the Egyptians following their very difficult victory over Algeria on Monday in the match that lasted more than two hours, and pulled of a rapid victory 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-18) in 75 minutes.
The Tunisian players were better in attacks and defense and used well the undisciplined Egyptian block and backline defense to win the first set 25-20 in 27 minutes. Egypt tried to come back to the march in the second set and led several times before Tunisia dominated again to win the second set 25-19 in 23 minutes after a group of efficient spikes.
Although the Egyptians tried to save the match in the third set, Tunisia was controlling the rhythm to win 25-18 in 25 minutes and win the match in straight sets.
The competition final day will feature the final match when Tunisia meets Algeria with an advantage to the organizers to get the 2007 World championship slot if they won by any result. It is known that the African champions only will have a World Championship vacancy.


Day one
Egypt defeated Algeria in a thriller five setters


Kelibia, Tunisia, August 21-: In a match made the spectators on their toes for 138 minutes of exciting volleyball, the defending champions, Egypt defeated Algeria in a thriller five sets match in the opening match of the Ninth Boys Under 19 African Nations at the famous Issa Ben Nasr hall in the city of Kelibia, Tunisia on Monday.
The match attracted the overexcited Tunisian fans for more than two hours full of spirit and high performance from both teams till Egypt won in the tie break (24-26, 22-25, 25-18, 26-24, 15-9) when the thrills reached the peak.
Algeria was better in attack in the first two sets and used the mistakes of Egyptian players in defense to win the first set in 30 minutes and the second in 25 minutes.
Egypt came to the match starting from the third set when they adjusted the block and backline defense to win 25-18 in 25 minutes. The fourth set was the most exciting as Egypt won narrowly 26-24 in 35 minutes after several balls of the match for the Algerians to extend the match to the tiebreak which showed Egyptian dominance defensively and offensively specially when they led 6-0 and 9-5 till they ended the tiebreak 15-9 in 23 minutes.
The competition day two will feature an expected final when Egypt meets the organizers Tunisia on Tuesday.
 


Algeria meets the defending champions in the opening

Cairo, Egypt, August 20-: the defending champions, Egypt meets Algeria on Monday in the opening match of the Ninth Boys Under 19 African Nations to start in the famous Issa Ben Nasr hall in the city of Kelibia, Tunisia. The competition will feature three national team the defending champions, Egypt with hosts, Tunisia and the organizers of the last World Championship in this age category, Algeria and they will compete for the 2007 World Championship vacancy.
Egypt will try to bring a victory over the strong Algerians who show good performance in the last World Championship of this age category held in their homelands in 2005 before their strong match against Tunisia on Tuesday. The Algerian Volleyball Federation arranged good preparation for their team aiming to qualify to the finals of World Championship for the second time in a raw.
The organizers, Tunisia will be also a great favorite with the aid of the ir excited spectators expected to attend as usual in volleyball competitions of this North African country.
"We hope to see a competition that shows the future of African teams," Said CAVB Executive Committee member Mrs. Touria Aarab. "We want to see more support for these youngsters from CAVB to see more participating teams. I think this will be one of the major points of discussion during the coming CAVB meeting in September 2006." She added.
 


Three teams compete for a World Championship Vacancy

Cairo, Egypt, August 19-: Three African teams will compete for one World championship vacancy when they compete together in the Ninth Boys Under 19 African Nations to be held in Kelibia, Tunisia 21- 24 August. After last minute withdrawal of Sudan, the defending champions, Egypt with hosts, Tunisia and the organizers of the last World Championship in this age category, Algeria will compete for the prestigious spot in this competition.
The championship will be held in a round robin format between the three teams in the famous Issa Ben Nasr hall in the city of Kelibia where volleyball is considered the most popular sport there.
The host team, Tunisia will be one of the big favorites to win the title and qualify to the World championship for the second time in a raw as they were the runner up of the 2004 competition in South Africa.
Egypt will enter this competition with eyes on the World Championship spot for the fourth time in a raw, as they had a local camp in the last two months in the Olympic Centre in Cairo and including another camp in the city of Suez by the Suez Canal under supervision of their head coach Ahmed Mostafa who was a famous setter in Zamalek club. Egypt qualified to the World Championship spot in the last three competitions with their best performance in 2001 when they were ranked fourth.
Algeria prepared also a competitive team after they appeared with a good picture during the last World championship in their homelands in 2005 and they want to compete for the title this time specially with their local progrmme which depend on these youngsters to return back on the competition spot in men's category in the near future.
The technical meeting will be held on Sunday followed by the opening ceremony and the opening match on Monday. The winner will qualify automatically to the World Championship in 2007 where the organizers not yet determined.
