African Zone V Supports FIVB President Acosta
Collective picture of Zone VCairo, Egypt, April 7-: African Volleyball Confederation Zone V sends a support message to the candidature of Dr. Ruben Acosta for the FIVB Presidency during the next FIVB Congress in Japan October 2006. The meeting headed by CAVB President Dr. Amr Elwani and the zone president Mr. Emad Eldine Osman from Sudan and attended by five countries, asked for African unity to support the current President in the coming congress to keep the pace of volleyball all over the world and to get more support from the Volleyball governing body as usual since Dr. Acosta took over the responsibility.
“We are happy to see this African unity supporting our beloved President for sake of more progress of our sport” Said Dr. Amr Elwani after the meeting. “We put all the points to implement the zonal activity this year in both volleyball and beach volleyball levels.” He added.
Zone V President Mr. Emad Osman thanked Dr. Elwani for his great work to develop volleyball in Africa especially at Zonal level which was reflected positively in the last four years in terms of results in the international level. He suggested that Sudan will host the Zonal competition December 2006 according to CAVB Calendar. “We hope to have annual competitions for the nearby countries of the zone which will decrease the travel costs for many countries and ensure good opportunity for international experience for out teams” Said Mr. Emad.
Kenya Volleyball President, Mr. Waithaka Kioni put a request to organize a zonal competition for Juniors as Dr. Elwani taking during Zone V meetingwell as the proposed 4 Nations Women’s competition next July, which will be a good opportunity for the African countries representing the continent in the next World Championship in Japan Egypt, Kenya and Cameroon to prepare for the big event with another strong team which is Nigeria.
Dr. Elwani put the implementation of Beach Volleyball competitions in club level on the table of discussion as it was discussed during the last CAVB congress. Some countries of the zone asked for the organization of such competition this year. He also stressed on the importance of communication to improve and compete at the world level. He asked the zonal countries to use the support of FIVB in terms of the coaches, Referee and VIS courses.
Eritrea Volleyball Federation President, Mr. Tecle Ghirmai showed that his Federation is careful to participate in the international level and succeeded to show their progress during the World championship Qualifications in Sudan for men and in Kenya for Women last year.
Djibouti Volleyball Federation President, Mr. Elias Abdalla showed that his country is in need of participation in many courses to graduate more coaches and referees who can help in volleyball development in the country.
