FIVB Presidency Candidature
Cairo, Egypt, March 29-: We received a lot of inquiries from the media and National Federations about the recent applications to FIVB Presidency and it was strange that there was a lack of information about the FIVB constitutions which govern the applications to this prestigious position.
We want to clear that FIVB constitution specially the rules and regulations of the elections of the President indicate that
· The outgoing president can run for elections at the World Congress in Japan.
· Only members of the FIVB board are eligible to become FIVB President after they get the approval from their corresponding National Federations.
· As far as we know from the communications with FIVB board members, non of the FIVB board members applied for the position except for the current president Dr. Ruben Acosta.
It is well known that Dr. Acosta received a great support during the last few weeks to be re-elected as FIVB President to continue his limitless projects which was the main factor to increase the popularity of the sport all over the world till volleyball and Beach volleyball were chosen as the most popular sports in the last Olympic Games in Athens 2004 both in the venues and through TV coverage.
He is considered the most suitable character for this critical position because of his long experience with the big organization since he started his presidency in 1984 till he made FIVB one of the richest and most successful International federations all over the world.
The enemies ousted from our organization are trying to deceive the National Federations making false statements about the health of the FIVB President who has been more active than ever even specially the last three years particularly in 2005 when he found so many abuses in the FIVB finances. The five Confederation Presidents have stated all their support to President Acosta.
